And many overlooked men even did this in cisterns , from being bent in from unceasing thirst , and the illness had returned regardless of whether a greater or lesser amount of water was drunk . Both sleeplessness and restlessness of this , which was never quiet , hung over all of them . And the body , at such a time , while the sickness was in full bloom , did not die away , but held out against the expectation of bodily suffering , with the result that they died either in the longest case nine or seven days from the inward fever , or yet holding on to some power , if they survived , from the going down of the disease into the stomach and from the rising of strong ulcers and also from diarrhea of pure pain all but a few were utterly destroyed through their own weakness .
