ISMÈNE .
O malheureuse , mais qu’ajouterais-je moi davantage en dénouant ou en nouantsi ces choses sont dans ces [ circonstances ] ?

ANTIGONE .
Réfléchis si tu seras compagne-du-travail et coopéreras .

ISMÈNE .
A quelle espèce d’entreprise-dangereuse ? où donc de réflexion es-tu ( que médites-tu ) ?

ANTIGONE .
Si tu soulèveras le corps-mort avec ( te joignant à ) cette main .

ISMÈNE .
Tu médites donc d’enterrer lui , ceci étant interdit à la ville ?

ANTIGONE .
Certainement [ je médite d’enterrer ] mon frère , et quoique tu ne veuilles pas , le tien . Car assurément je ne serai pas convaincue ayant trahi .

ISMÈNE .
O téméraire , Créon [ l ' ] ayant défendu ?

ANTIGONE .
Mais il n’anpartient en rien à lui , de [ m’ ] écarter des miens .

ISMÈNE .
Hélas ! songe , ô [ ma ] sœur , que [ notre ] père a péri à nous [ étant ] détesté et en-déshonneur , lui-même ayant frappé d’une main elle-même-active [ ses ] deux yeux , à cause des crimes surpris-par-lui-même . Puis [ sa ] mère et [ sa ] femme , un double titre , détruit [ sa ] vie par des cordes nouées ; et en-troisième-lieu nos deux frères se tuant-eux-mêmes en un jour les malheureux , accomplirent [ leur ] sort commun par les mains l ' un-de-l’autre . Maintenant d’un autre côtésonge encore , à quel point nous périrons [ le ] plus misérablement , nous-deux abandonnées seules aujourd’hui si nous transgressons le décret ou les ordres des princes , en violation de la loi . Mais il faut considérer d’un côté cela , que nous sommes nées femmes-toutes-deux , comme ne devant pas lutter contre des hommes ; puis d’un autre côté obéir aussi en ces choses et en de plus douloureuses encore que celles-ci , parce que nous sommes gouvernées par de plus puissants . Moi au moins donc j’obéirai à ceux qui sont-établis en magistrature priant ceux sous terre d’avoir indulgence , car je suis violentée en ces choses . Car le faire des choses outre-mesure n’a aucun sens .

Ismene :
O wretch , but what more would I add by untying or knotting if these things are under these [ circumstances ] ?

Antigone :
Think about whether you will be a coworker and cooperate .

Ismene :
What kind of dangerous business ? Where are you thinking ( what are you thinking ) ?

Antigone :
If you will lift the dead body with ( joining with ) this hand .

Ismene :
So you are thinking to bury him , this being forbidden in the city ?

Antigone :
Certainly [ I meditate to bury ] my brother , and though you do not want , yours .
For assuredly I will not be convinced having betrayed .

Ismene :
O reckless one , Creon having forbidden [ it ] ?

Antigone :
But he’s not in his own right , to keep [ me ] away from my own .

Ismene :
Alas !
Think , oh [ my ] sister that [ our ] father perished to us [ being ] hated and in-dishonor , himself having struck with his own hand , himself-active [ his ] two eyes , because of the crimes surprised-by-himself . Then [ his ] mother and [ his ] wife , a double title , destroyed [ his ] life with knotted ropes ; and in the third place our two brothers killing themselves in one day the unfortunate ones , accomplished [ their ] common fate by the hands of each other . Now on another side again , at what point will we die most miserably the two of us left alone today if we transgress the decree or the orders of the princes , in violation of the law . But it is necessary to consider on the one hand that we are born women , as not having to fight against men ; then on the other hand to obey also in these things and in even more painful ones than these , because we are governed by more powerful ones . I at least then I will obey those who are established in magistracy begging those under ground to have indulgence , because I am violated in these things . For the doing of things beyond measure has no sense .
