Ταῦτα μὲν οὖν τὰ ἐρωτικὰ ἴσως , ὦ Σώκρατες , κἂν σὺ μνηθείης · τὰ δὲ τέλεα καὶ ἐποπτικά , ὧν ἕνεκα καὶ ταῦτα ἔστιν , ἐάν τις ὀρθῶς μετίῃ , οὐκ οἶδ᾽ εἰ οἷος τ’ ἂν εἴης . ἐρῶ μὲν οὖν , ἔφη , ἐγὼ καὶ προθυμίας οὐδὲν ἀπολείψω ·
" ' Now perhaps , Socrates , you too might be initiated into these erotics ; but as for the perfect revelations — for which the others are means , if one were to proceed correctly on the way — I do not know if you would be able to be initiated into them . Now I shall speak , ' she said . ' I shall not falter in my zeal ; "
" ‘Now then , perhaps even you , Socrates , might be initiated into these rites of love ; but as for the final revelations to which these are a means ( if one pursues them correctly ) , I don’t know if you’d be up to them . Still , ’ she said , ‘I’ll speak and won’t fall short at all in eagerness .
