the high priests and prophets and the priests who enter the sanctuary to conduct the robing of the gods and the scribes of the Sacred Books and the scribes of the House of Life and the other priests , having come from the temples of Egypt |5 [ to Memphis ] ( at ) the festival of the assumption of the supreme office by Pharaoh Ptolemy living forever , beloved of Ptah , the God who appears , whose goodness is perfect , from his father , having assembled in the temple of Memphis , saying :

Since it happens that Pharaoh Ptolemy living forever , the God who appears , whose goodness is perfect , ( son of ) Pharaoh Ptolemy |6 [ and of Queen ] Arsinoe , the Gods who love their father , has made numerous benefactions to the temples of Egypt and all those under his suzerainty ( as ) Pharaoh ,

|9 ἐπειδὴ βασιλεὺς Πτολεμαῖος αἰωνόβιος , ἠγαπημένος ὑπὸ τοῦ Φθᾶ , θεὸς Ἐπιφανὴς Εὐχάριστος , ὁ ἐγ βασιλέως Πτολεμαίου καὶ βασιλίσσης Ἀρσινόης , θεῶν Φιλοπατόρων , κατὰ πολλὰ εὐεργέτηκεν τά θ’ ἱερὰ καὶ |10 τοὺς ἐν αὐτοῖς ὄντας καὶ τοὺς ὑπὸ τὴν ἑαυτοῦ βασιλείαν τασσομένους ἅπαντας ,

|9 Since king Ptolemy , everliving , beloved of Ptah , the god Epiphanes Eucharistos , the one sprung from king Ptolemy and Queen Arsinoe , the gods Philopatores , has in many ways been benefactor as regards both the temples and |10 those in them and all those living under his dominion ,

The debts to the Crown owed by those in Egypt and those in the rest of his realm , being many in number , he has remitted ;

He has ordered regarding the divine revenues of the gods and the silver and grain which are given as syntaxis to their |9 [ temples ] each year and the portions which accrue to the gods from vine-yards and gardens and all other property over which they had rights under his father , that they remain in their possession ;

προσέταξε δὲ καὶ τὰς προσόδους τῶν ἱερῶν καὶ τὰς διδομένας εἰς αὐτὰ κατ’ ἐνιαυτὸν συντάξεις σιτι- |15 κάς τε καὶ ἀργυρικάς , ὁμοίως δὲ καὶ τὰς καθηκούσας ἀπομοίρας τοῖς θεοῖς ἀπό τε τῆς ἀμπελίτιδος γῆς καὶ τῶν παραδείσων καὶ τῶν ἄλλων τῶν ὑπαρξάντων τοῖς θεοῖς ἐπὶ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ |16 μένειν ἐπὶ χώρας

and he has ordered the revenues of the temples and the syntaxis given to them each year in grain |15 and coin and likewise the portions allotted to the gods from both vineyards and gardens and from the other properties which belonged to the gods under his father |16 to remain in force ;

further , he has ordered regarding the priests not to pay their tax for serving as priest above the amount they paid up to year one of his father . He has relieved the people |10 [ who are in ] the offices of the temples of the sailing they make to Alexandria every year ;

προσέταξεν δὲ καὶ περὶ τῶν ἱερέων ὅπως μηθὲν πλεῖον διδῶσιν εἰς τὸ τελεστικὸν οὗ ἐτάσσοντο ἕως τοῦ πρώτου ἔτους ἐπὶ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ἀπέλυσεν δὲ καὶ τοὺς ἐκ τῶν |17 ἱερῶν ἐθνῶν τοῦ κατ’ ἐνιαυτὸν εἰς Ἀλεξάνδρειαν κατάπλου

and he has ordered regarding the priests that they should pay no more for the tax for admission to the priesthood than what was appointed up to the first year of his father’s reign ; and he has relieved the members of the |17 priestly orders from the yearly sailing to Alexandria ;

he has ordered not to pressgang sailors ; he has remitted two-thirds of the royal linen which is paid to Pharaoh’s House by the temples . Everything which had lost its order for time untold he has restored to its |11 [ proper ] condition ; he has taken every care to see done that which is wont to be done for the gods in fitting manner , likewise to see to the dispensing of justice to mankind like Thoth the twice great .

προσέταξεν δὲ καὶ τὴν σύλληψιν τῶν εἰς τὴν ναυτείαν μὴ ποιεῖσθαι , τῶν τ’ εἰς τὸ βασιλικὸν συντελουμένων ἐν τοῖς ἱεροῖς βυσσίνων |18 ὀθονίων ἀπέλυσεν τὰ δύο μέρη , τά τε ἐγλελειμμένα πάντα ἐν τοῖς πρότερον χρόνοις ἀποκατέστησεν εἰς τὴν καθήκουσαν τάξιν , φροντίζων ὅπως τὰ εἰθισμένα συντελῆται τοῖς θεοῖς κατὰ τὸ |19 προσῆκον ὁμοίως δὲ καὶ τὸ δίκαιον πάσιν ἀπένειμεν , καθάπερ Ἑρμῆς ὁ μέγας καὶ μέγας

and he has ordered impressment for the navy not to be practised ; and of the taxes on byssos cloth paid by the temples to the Crown |18 he has remitted two-thirds . All that was neglected in former times he has restored to order , being concerned that the traditional duties be paid to the gods as is |19 fitting ; and likewise he has apportioned justice to all like Hermes the great and great .

προσέταξεν δὲ καὶ τοὺς καταπορευομένους ἔκ τε τῶν μαχίμων καὶ τῶν ἄλλων τῶν ἀλλότρια |20 φρονησάντων ἐν τοῖς κατὰ τὴν ταραχὴν καιροῖς κατελθόντας μένειν ἐπὶ τῶν ἰδίων κτήσεων

He has ordered also that those returning home of the warrior class and the others who were unfavourably |20 disposed in the times of the disturbance , having returned , should occupy their old possessions .
